MEANING

‘Whose Skin Are You Living In?’ is probably the most honest track on the E.P. Its a track we wrote in the second cycle of recording, it doesn’t move completely away from writing the more fictionally based lyrics but it does have more of a tone where we’re addressing some of the people around us. I think with this track the time came for us to shout about the things we hadn’t said yet, to say something we really wanted to say that we hadn’t before.

The title of the track is a little tongue in cheek, there’s a lot of pressure and expectation on peoples backs today, living in a generation of self enthusiasts, where we all view peoples lives via the highlights reels of Instagram / Facebook / Twitter etc. It breeds an attitude where we’re all challenging ourselves to give off the best impression we can 100% of the time, & that’s not always real. Pretending to be someone you aren’t so others will approve of you isn’t positive, being who you are is important, individualism should be celebrated, personal identity should be valued, & that’s what we wanted to say in this track.

MUSIC / BACKGROUND

We were at the height of our confidence when we wrote this tune, we were playing with no fear. We felt we’d really nailed down what we were trying to achieve with our music & we weren’t afraid of trying things we hadn’t before either. We’d already tracked a few of the songs for the EP with Bruce in Glasgow & that gave us great inspiration & perspective for finishing it off, you can hear that on this song.

lyrics

LYRICS

You're living a lie
That's an arms length from out of control
There's still blood on the pedestal
From where you feel last night

This culture of blame will tear us apart
We're not getting younger
Honesties a dying art
Neck deep in 'fame' we're living out our glory days
Jealous eyes get left behind

Whose skin are you living in?
Whose skin are you living in?
You're only kidding yourself
So open up your body for me

I'll throw you a rope
Your only talent is your only curse
You're lip syncing every word
I can't feed your ego but I'll still claim to care

This culture of blame will tear us apart
We're not getting younger
So open up your body for me
So open up your body baby

Whose skin are you living in?
